Located in a prestigious part of urban city, this Hong Kong apartment building is a rare find surrounded by trees. The owners, both medical doctors, have an extremely busy schedule. Their recent purchase of a third unit brought them to us to convert this extra unit into a ¡§sky garden¡¨ for relaxation. They also required a connecting staircase to their living quarters. Their intention is to turn this into a private retreat in order to have an instant ¡§get away¡¨ from their regular busy life.

Spa therapy in Asia is widely expanded. The luxury to enjoy spa regularly in one¡¦s private home is everyone¡¦s dream. Although the context is set in an urban residential tower, the space actually offers plenty of fresh air and captivating greenery view. The concept is to create a luxury private spa which merges with the nature outside.Elements such as water was introduced to enhance and purify the space and the presence of water becomes therapeutic. The boundary between the exterior and interior become less defined by applying exterior materials in an interior space. The space revitalizes connections between people, water and the nature in an urban setting.

An open plan was instigated and the space was divided into five different zones without any physical boundary ¡V Jacuzzi, Internal Courtyard, Open Deck, Sitting Area and the Zen Room. The Jacuzzi zone incorporating with a waterfall is placed in the centre of the space as a focal point. The original balcony has been extended internally dramatically in order to bring the outdoor into the interior. One can enjoy the scenery while soaking in the Jacuzzi or chilling out in the Courtyard. Two independent fountain walls run along the Open Deck and the Internal Courtyard serves as a backdrop. The teak wood ceiling strip is a spine of the space which links up all the zones. Sitting Area is an extension of the Open Deck, where one can discover a 4.7m long open bar table and concealed kitchen behind it. Adjacent to the Sitting Area, located in a more private corner, is the Zen Room for yoga practice or meditation.
